The Strathmore girls soccer team collected wins over Laton and McFarland last week improving its undefeated record to 5-0-1. The wins place the Spartans atop the East Sierra League.

The Spartans hosted McFarland in a 6-0 blowout over the Cougars on Friday, Feb. 2. Goalkeepers Veronica Magana and Rosemary Medina combined for the shutout.

Cecilia Ramirez scored twice against McFarland with Mercedes Magallon, Emilia Gutierrez, Veronica Magana and Rosemary Medina all adding one goal each.

Magallon was the first to score with an assist from Medina. Ramirez put in another goal to make the score 2-0 at the half.

Ramirez scored her second goal at the start of the second half and Gutierrez, Magana and Medina each put one away to make the score 6-0.

Strathmore coach Hector Gonzalez had high praise for his team as well as high expectations.

&#8220We're developing very well, we're small but we're getting it on,” Gonzalez said. &#8220I'm hoping for an undefeated season, I expect the girls to win the league title.”

The Spartans hope to seal up that league title this week as they face Orange Cove on Tuesday then Farmersville Friday, Feb. 9.

The Aztecs are the only team that has managed to tie the Spartans this season. The two teams battled to a 2-2 draw in their first meeting this season after Strathmore failed to convert 10 one on one attacks to goals.

At Tuesday's home game on Feb. 6, the Spartans celebrated senior night to recognize Ana and Maria Bravo, Andreina Barrientos and Rosemary Medina.
