Farmersville takes Strathmore tourney

By David Ruiz

The Farmersville softball team went 3-0 at the Strathmore Invitational on March 7-10 to win the tournament title.

The Lady Aztecs shut out the Lindsay Cardinals in the first game, 11-0, with Heather Hall only giving up two hits in the complete game.

Farmersville totaled only five hits but took advantage of seven Lindsay errors.

On March 9, Farmersville faced the host team, Strathmore. The Aztecs scored four runs in the sixth inning on their way to an 8-2 victory.

Hall pitched another complete game in the win over the Spartans, giving up only four hits and striking out eight.

Elsa Mejia led the Farmersville offense with three of the team's 12 hits. Mejia also stole three bases.

A rematch with the Spartans on Saturday would decide the tournament title. Hall, this time, struck out seven batters in a close game as Strathmore scored twice in the bottom of the seventh but fell short against tournament champion Farmersville.
