Woodlake High School hosted this year's East Sequoia League Individual Tennis Tournament on Friday, May 4 and the top four finishers in both the doubles and singles qualified to compete in the Valley Individual Tournament on Saturday, May 12 in Porterville.

Corcoran's Merick Wadsworth defeated Orosi's Anthony DeLaCerda to win the singles tournament. Strathmore's Jonathan Gomez defeated Lindsay's Josh Castro to take third place.

The No. 2 seeded Gomez qualified for the third place match by defeating Woodlake's Edgar Quezada 8-1 in the opening round and Orosi's Albert Chavez 8-4 in the second round.

Gomez fell to DeLaCerda in the Semifinal, 6-3, 4-6 and 7-3.

Lindsay's No. 4 seeded Castro started out the day with an 8-0 win over Orosi's Mark Edralin and went on to defeat Corcoran's Celmente Mata 8-7 with a 7-5 tiebreaker. He fell 6-2 and 6-0 to Wadsworth in the semifinals moving him into the consolation match.

In the doubles tournament, Orosi's No. 2 seeded Ramon Jimenez and Alex Mendoza defeated Woodlake's No. 1 seeded Ulmaro Cuevas and Walter Marroquin to take the championship.

Woodlake's pair advanced to the championship by defeating Strathmore's Antonio Lara and Daniel Magana 8-0; Orosi's Miguel Herrera and Steven Torres, 8-1 and Orosi's Victor Martinez and Frankie Farias 6-4 and 6-1.

Corcoran's Osvaldo Arroyo and Marco Luna defeated Orosi's Victor Martinez and Frankie Farias for third place.

The top four singles players and the top four doubles pairs will compete on Saturday, May 12 at Granite Hills and Porterville High Schools.
