PUSD handles Aug. 17 scrimmage scuffle internally

PORTERVILLE – Things got a little out of control on Thursday night, Aug. 17, at the tri-scrimmage between the Strathmore Spartans, Monache Marauders and Exeter Monarchs. A shoving match broke out between inner district schools Strathmore and Monache which caused the scrimmage to abruptly end.

Jim Crichlow, commissioner of the California Interscholastic Federation’s (CIF) Central Section, says that no penalty will be handed down by the CIF. Due to the fact that there were no ejections, only a cooling off period was issued to the players involved. Crichlow said that the schools could discipline the players.

Both athletic directors met with Porterville Unified athletic director Richard Rankin. None of the parties involved commented on the matter due to the fact it has to remain confidential as student discipline. But sources ensure that the disciplines were consistent between both teams.
