VISALIA – Golden West could not keep up its recent momentum falling short of a tie atop the West Yosemite League standings with the Redwood Rangers. The Trailblazers shot a combined score of 468 at their home course, Valley Oaks Golf Course, on Thursday, Sept. 20. It was good enough for second place which is where they now rest in the standing with 16 points. One point behind Redwood.
Mya Chao carded the lowest score for the Blazers with a ten over par, 82. Errant ball striking on her led to her opening nine score of 44. On the first and third holes she was able to save her par. It was on the par-4 second hole which the bad ball striking began to catch up with her. After her drive found the middle of the fairway an approach of 155 yards ended up short and right of the green. Her chip to the elevated pin placement shot over the green. Two puts later she carded her first over par hole of the round with a bogey.
It was the back nine which saved her round. She turned around and carded a two over par score of 38.
Chao’s score was six strokes worse than Redwood’s Rylee Santiago. The WYL individual leader shot a four over par, 76.
The rest of the Blazers’ scores did not fare much better. Haylee Damron carded a 90 after taking a triple bogey on the par-four fourth hole. Kim Hickam shot 93. Megan Warner shot 100. Madison Reyna shot 103. The 109 score of Cynthia Reyes was dropped.
The Redwood Rangers shot a combined score of 466. Lily Stetson shot a 91. Sabrina Bianco shot a 96. Halle Arellano shot a 97. Sophie Wasem shot a 106. Sara Salisbury’s score of 112 was dropped.
