Each week, Exeter Union High School coaches will nominate outstanding players in each sport. These players will be featured here in the newspaper as well as at Kirkman’s VIP Pizza. This week’s players are listed below.

Boys Basketball: Blazers’ WYL woes on the court continue

Golden West remained winless and fell to last place in the West Yosemite League after last weeks 55-43 loss to the Hanford Bullpups. The Blazers have one game left in their season and that is tonight against the El Diamante Miners at 7:30 p.m. If the Blazers lose, it will be the first time they went winless in the WYL since 2011.

Boys Basketball: Grizzlies wrap up title in 68-27 rout

Lindsay was on the wrong side of 68-27 rout at the hands of Granite Hills on Thursday, Jan. 31, as the Grizzlies clinched the East Sequoia League title. This was Lindsay’s ninth loss in a row. Tonight, Feb. 6, they will look to end the season on a high note by defeating their rival the Strathmore Spartans on their home court. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Boys Soccer: Monarchs tied for second place in CSL

Exeter remained in tie for second place in the Central Sequoia League after their 4-2 win over the Kingsburg Vikings. Exeter scored two goals in the first half, and two more in the second. Exeter finished up the regular season at home last night against the first place Dinuba Emperors. Final occurred after press time. The Monarchs are projected to get the number two seed in the Division VI playoffs.

Wrestling: Exeter X-Men sign-ups

The Exeter freestyle wrestling team, X-Men is having sign-ups going on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Exeter Union High School wrestling room across the street from the pool. The fee is $35 and is for kids in kindergarten through high school. All athletes must have a current USA wrestling card to practice and compete.

Little League: Lindsay Youth Softball/ Baseball registration

Registration for the Lindsay Youth Softball and Baseball Leagues is now open. Registration can be done in person on Saturdays in the months of January and February from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Olive Bowl across the street from Bob’s Frosty King. The last day to sign up is March 2. A co-ed T-ball league for 4- to 5-year-olds is $50. Rookie baseball league for boys 6 to 9 and girls 6 to 8 is $70. Minors from ages 9 to 11 for $80 and majors from ages 12 to 14 is $80. A sibling discount is available. Softball evaluations will take place on March 2 at the Olive Bowl.

Youth Soccer: Registration for outdoor youth league opens

Registration for Lindsay outdoor youth soccer league has begun. There are four teams players can sign up for: U5, U8, U10, and U14. Registration is held Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lindsay roundabout. A fee of $60 is required to sign-up and purchase a uniform. The last day to sign-up is Feb. 27. That evening there will be evaluations held at McDermont X. Games will be held at the Lindsay Sports Complex. For more information contact Faustino Perez at 805-216-2728.
