Freshman guard from France drops 39 on COS
College of the Sequoias’ women’s basketball team didn’t have an answer for Aurelie Bevao. The freshman point guard from Le Tampon, France, scored 39 points while playing all 40 minutes to lead Reedley to a 68-63 Central Valley Conference victory over the Giants on Jan. 18 Porter Field House. It was the third straight loss and fourth in the past five games for the Giants (12-8, 1-3), who now trail conference-leading Merced by three games. COS has won or shared the past three conference titles.
COS and Reedley go down to the wire
Milton Burnett delivered again for College of the Sequoias’ men’s basketball team. Coming off a season-high 27-point performance three days earlier, the Bullard High product sank a 3-pointer while getting fouled and converted the free throw in the closing seconds to lift the state No. 11-ranked Giants to a 77-75 Central Valley Conference win over No. 30 Reedley on Jan. 18 at Porter Field House. COS (14-4, 3-1) overcame a four-point deficit with 1:37 left while remaining one-game behind CVC-leading Fresno City (15-3, 4-0) and tied with Columbia (17-1, 3-1) for second place heading into a showdown against the Claim Jumpers on Jan. 22 at Porter Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with admission $5.
Exeter 3-3 in league
The Monarchs defeated Kingsburg 48-44 last Wednesday for their third win in league. Two days later they fell to Dinuba 38-35.
