Marin Catholic Wildcats score two touchdowns off interceptions, score 33 points before the fourth quarter
KENTFIELD, CALIF. – The Central Valley Christian Cavaliers’ season came to a close on a whimper, not a bang. The Cavaliers drove all the way to Kentfield, Calif. in hopes of defeating the Marin Catholic Wildcats in the CIF Division 4-AA State Championship, but they were forced to drive back with a 33-14 loss.
After tackling the Serrano Diamondbacks to become Southern California Regional Champions, two weeks ago, the Cavaliers were riding high. But things quickly took a turn for the worse when Marin Catholic took a pick-six to the house with under a minute left in the first quarter, last Saturday, Dec. 11.
The Wildcats added to their lead with a passing touchdown with under a minute left in the second quarter to go up 14-0. Marin Catholic came out rushing and ending up getting their third and fourth touchdowns of the afternoon in the third quarter to go up 26-0. A second pick-six gave the Wildcats an insurmountable 33-0 lead with less than two minutes to go in the third quarter.
The Cavaliers didn’t score their first points until Max Bakker hooked up with Jaeden Moore for a 35-yard touchdown pass to add six points to their side of the board. CVC rushed for their second touchdown of the game with under a minute to go in the fourth quarter bringing the final 33-14.
An 11-5 record, valley championship, regional state championship and state championship game appearance is a healthy season for the Central Valley Christian Cavaliers. Whether they can make a similar run in 2022 is obviously yet to be seen, but perhaps not out of the realm of possibility for a team that consistently finds success year after year.
