Rangers Jacob Yang and Dominic Nguyen finish second in the CIF Central Section boys tennis doubles tournament; Redwood team lose to a Clovis East duo in the championship match

SAN LUIS OBISPO – This past weekend, the Redwood duo of Jacob Yang and Dominic Nguyen represented Tulare County as they competed in the CIF Central Section boys tennis doubles tournament. While they did not take home the Central Valley title, Yang and Nguyen went on a run to finish second in the tournament.

As the tournament’s no. 3 seed, Yang and Nguyen won their opening match of the weekend after Central Valley Christian’s Ian DeJong and Trent Koetsier forfeited the match. Then in their first action of the weekend, the Ranger duo defeated Arroyo Grande’s Lance Wilkomm and Levi Pick, 6-4, 6-1.

In their semifinal match against no. 2 seed Bakersfield Christian’s Zeb Duket and Austin Cusator, Yang and Nguyen won 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the championship match. But their run came to an end in the title match as the Rangers lost, 6-1, 6-2, to no. 1 seed Christian Castillo and Vraj Patel from Clovis East.

With the tournament over, Yang’s and Nguyen’s high school tennis careers came to an end with a second-place finish in the Central Valley.
