Parks & Rec offers youth sports discount day

Youth baseball can be expensive. One child demands the price of a uniform, glove, bat, cleats, cup, bag, etc. That’s why the Visalia Parks and Recreation Department is giving parents a chance to save $10 by registering this Saturday. From 10 a.m. to noon on Feb. 6, Visalia Parks and Recreation is offering a Spring Youth Sports discount registration day at the Anthony Community Center, 345 N. Jacob St. in Visalia or online at www.liveandplayvisalia.com. Registration will be accepted for youth volleyball and baseball. Cost for each program is $57 per child with the $10 discount.

“This is a great opportunity for children to learn about sportsmanship and the rules of the game all while staying active and having a great time with their peers,” stated Jeannie Greenwood, director for Visalia Parks and Recreation Department.

Children involved in Youth Baseball will discover this great American pastime which will emphasize teamwork, physical fitness and positive self-esteem along with building baseball skills. Coaches will cover the basics of fielding, catching, throwing and batting. Children ages 3-9 are eligible to participate and games are scheduled on Saturdays in April and May.

Registration deadline is Feb. 19 and fees increase $10 after this date (registration accepted as space allows). Children involved in the Youth Volleyball will learn the game of volleyball in a fun, structured environment. This league teaches basic skills and sportsmanship. Children in grades 3-12 are eligible to participate and games are scheduled on Saturdays in April and May.
