Alex Lopez molested five children over 16 years from 1993 to 2009
VISALIA – A Visalia man who molested five children over the course of sixteen years was sentenced to 330 years in prison last week.
On Oct. 25, Tulare County Superior Court Judge Kathryn Montejano sentenced Alex Lopez, 75, of Visalia, to 330 years to life in prison for child molestation. A Tulare County jury convicted Lopez of 22 counts of lewd acts upon a child under the age of fourteen on Aug. 1, 2017. The jury also found true the special allegations of substantial sexual conduct and that each crime involved multiple victims. Each count is a felony.
“I am proud of the Crimes against Children Division for securing justice for families who suffered at the hands of this heinous offender,” said District Attorney Tim Ward. “Nothing hurts a community more than a crime against a child.”
The crimes began in July of 1993 and continued until approximately May of 2009 against five victims. One crime occurred between July 16, 1993 and July 15, 1995 against a female victim, who was between nine and ten years old at the time of the sexual assault. Two of the crimes occurred between January 4, 1996 and January 3, 1998 against a female victim, who was between six and seven years old at the time of the sexual assaults. Eleven of the crimes occurred between January 18, 1995 and January 17, 2000 against a female victim, who was between four and eight years old at the time of the sexual assaults. Seven of the crimes occurred between May 5, 2001 and May 4, 2008 against a female victim, who was between four and ten years old at the time of the sexual assaults. The last crime occurred between May 20, 2005 and May 19, 2009 against a male victim who was between three and six years old at the time of the sexual assault. Twenty-one of the crimes involved substantial sexual conduct.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Chelsea Wayt of the Crimes against Children Division and investigated by Detective Mike Verissimo of the Visalia Police Department and retired Detective Christine Gray of the Fresno Police Department.
