Friday the 13th fire burns north Visalia home

Fire started in the garage and caused $65,000 in damage to a home in the 2400 block of Burke Street

VISALIA – The coronavirus panic was not the only tragedy sparked on Friday the 13th. The day proved unlucky for one north Visalia home as well.

A fire started just before 9 p.m. at a home in the 2400 block of Burke Street. Firefighters arrived to find the garage burning and that the fire had extended to the primary parts of the residence. 

Original reports advised of a possible subject still inside the structure but no one was found after two searches of the home. 

Twenty firefighters on four engines and two fire trucks were able to knock down the fire quickly with hose lines. 

The fire damage was limited to the garage and kitchen/dining room. There was however significant damage from smoke throughout the residence. The fire caused approximately $50,000 in structural damage and $15,000 to contents. The value of the property was estimated at $240,000. 

There were no reported injuries. The cause of this fire is undetermined with the investigation continuing.
