Ice House Theatre hosts first show since February 2020 beginning April 30 through May 9
VISALIA – Local actors have been yearning for the show to go on for more than a year. With the economy reopening at a rapid pace, it finally will.
Visalia Players at the Ice House Theater in Visalia is busy getting ready to re-open their theater later this month, and will be re-opening with the cabaret The Bright Lights of Broadway. This show will feature songs and dance from some of Broadway’s greatest musicals such as Chicago, Shrek the Musical, Mean Girls, Les Miserables, and many more. The re-opening show will also mark the directorial debut of Exeter resident, Becca Coffey-Godfrey.
“There are so many extra things we need to do to get ready to open because of the pandemic,” said Coffey-Godfrey, “but it is so worth it. I really want to share my love for Broadway musicals with the community and bring light back into our lives after this last year.”
Coffey-Godfrey is excited for audiences to see her “very talented cast,” and the work they have all put in the last few months. “This cast has worked so hard with all of their songs and dance numbers, and have had to do it while maintaining social distancing and wearing masks which was not always easy,” said Coffey-Godfrey.
The cabaret will be performed outside since safety protocols need to be followed for not only the audience, but also for the cast and volunteers. The theater will have the outside venue marked to ensure that theater goers are socially distanced, and they are asking that those who attend the show wear masks. For all audience members who bring their own chairs to sit on for the performance, a $2 voucher will be given to each one to use at the concession stand, and their food/drink purchases will be brought to them by servers to eliminate any type of cross contamination.
The last show that played at the Ice House closed in February 2020, and cast members are excited to be back on the stage and doing the thing they love! Cast member, Hillari Loeffler cannot contain her enthusiasm for the upcoming show. “Theater has always been a way that so many of us feel alive and are able to express joy. I am so excited to be able to experience that again and share it with the community.” Cast member Elizabeth Flood agreed with Loeffler and said, “the cast has been a fun group to work with and I can’t wait to bring Broadway and theater back to the city of Visalia.”
The dates for The Bright Lights of Broadway are April 30, May 1 at 7:30 p.m.; May 2 at 2 p.m.; May 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m.; May 9 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased by visiting the Visalia Players’ web site at www.visaliaplayers.org or by calling 559-734-3900.
