Visalia seeks applications for planning commission

VISALIA – The local body which oversees growth and development in Visalia is seeking residents to fill two positions.

The city of Visalia is accepting applications for the Visalia Planning Commission now through May 21. The planning commission makes recommendations to the city council concerning land use, building, subdivisions, administers the zoning ordinance and handles matters that affect the growth and development of Visalia.

Commissioner Sarrah Peariso’s term ends on June 30 and she had decided to not seek reappointment to the board after serving four years on the commission. Commissioner Chris Gomez has served on the commission for six years and may seek reappointment for a fourth term.

The commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Additional work sessions and meetings may be scheduled to address specific matters. These positions require the filing of a Fair Political Practices Commission Conflict of Interest Form 700. The date and format of the interviews will depend upon the number of applications received. The council will consider formally appointing the planning commissioners on a date to be determined for the terms beginning July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2023.

The city is also accepting applications for three seats on the parks and recreation commission. The parks and recreation commission advises the city council and city staff in matters pertaining to parks, playgrounds, and recreation centers.

The commission meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Additional meetings may be scheduled to address specific matters. Recruitment for the positions will continue until Friday, May 21, 2021 at 12 p.m. The date and format of the interviews will depend upon the number of applications received.
