Visalia Police arrest Zachary Sanchez on multiple weapons charges, DUI and child endangerment

VISALIA – Nothing can come between family, but when a father wants to booze it up and go for a joy ride with his 6-year-old the police should probably step in.

According to the Visalia Police Department, at 10:10 p.m., last Friday, April 23, a patrol officer conducted a traffic stop at Akers and Noble for a traffic violation. The driver, Zachary Sanchez, 32, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. His 6-year-old child was a passenger in the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded firearm that was reported stolen. The firearm had a high-capacity magazine attached. Sanchez was booked into the Tulare County adult pretrial detention facility for child endangerment, DUI, felon in possession of a firearm and various other weapons charges.

Friday, April 23
At approximately 11:28 p.m., officers in the special enforcement unit contacted suspect male juvenile in the parking lot of Jack’s Gas (Valero) located at 1440 N. Dinuba Blvd. The male juvenile was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm and was taken into custody. The male juvenile was later booked into the Tulare County juvenile detention facility for minor in possession of a firearm and minor in possession of ammunition.

At approximately 5:08 p.m., officers in the special enforcement unit conducted a traffic stop at Blaine Park where suspect Abraham Sandoval, 22, was found to be in possession of a controlled substance for sale and was taken into custody. A search warrant was later served at Sandoval’s residence in the 100 block of North Turner Street. As a result of the search warrant, officers located a firearm and an additional amount of a controlled substance for sale along with packaging material. Sandoval was later booked into the Tulare County pretrial faciality for possession of a controlled substance, transposition of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics while armed, criminal storage of a firearm, maintaining a residence for the purpose of selling a controlled substance and the selling of a controlled substance within one thousand feet of a school.

Thursday, April 22
At 6:45 a.m. the Visalia Police Department received multiple calls regarding a shooting in the area of South County Center and West Dorthea. Upon arrival officers located numerous shell casings and two vehicles that had been struck by gunfire. The investigation determined that the unknown suspect was possibly attempting to steal from a vehicle when he was confronted by the owner. The suspect began to walk away, then turned and fired a handgun multiple times in the direction of the victim prior to fleeing the area. The victim was not injured, and the suspect was not located. Wednesday, April 21
At 2:36 a.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a report of an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Mooney Boulevard and Walnut Avenue involving a Chevy Colorado pickup and Honda Pilot SUV. The initial investigation determined the Honda Pilot was traveling westbound on Walnut Avenue and ran a red light at Mooney Boulevard. The Honda Pilot broadsided the Chevy Colorado which was traveling southbound Mooney Boulevard. The driver of the Chevy Colorado was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Honda Pilot was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries. Alcohol or drugs has been determined not to be a factor at this time.
